Emily Lovell works with Somach, Simmons & Dunn clients on all types of work, and she has experience in appellate work and a passion for agriculture.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems from UC Davis and her Juris Doctorate from the UC Irvine School of Law, where she was the Director of Outreach for the Environmental Law Society. She brings both trial and appellate litigation experience to the firm after completing a judicial externship with the Honorable Kimberly Knill of the Superior Court of California, County of Orange, and successfully litigating a case at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals through the Ninth Circuit Appellate Litigation Clinic at the UC Irvine School of Law. She brings an understanding of interstate compacts to the firm after, through her position as the Executive Chair of the UC Irvine Moot Court Board, she wrote both sides of an appellate argument involving the Agreement on Interstate Detainers.
Emily’s focus on serving agricultural clientele was built as a Legal Intern for the Vermont School of Law’s Center for Agriculture and Food Systems and career experience as a Climate Smart Agriculture Specialist with the University of California’s Cooperative Extension, where she secured over $2.5 million for California farmers to update their irrigation systems through submitting grant proposals to the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Emily’s passion for agriculture was developed through hands-on experience working on farms in Northern California, including a water buffalo creamery, where she produced fresh buffalo mozzarella.
